Wife of pastor killed on mission in Africa arrested in connection with death: ‘Giant shock’

The wife of a Minnesota pastor who was killed while on a mission trip with his family in Africa has been arrested, and a former close friend of the victim told Fox News Digital that the pastor was a “wonderful person” who “genuinely cared about those.” less privileged”.

Beau Shroyer, 44, former pastor of Lakes Area Vineyard Church, moved his wife and five children to Angola became a missionary in 2021, but he was killed in a tragic “act of violence” in Angola on Oct. 25, Lakes Area Vineyard Church chairman Pastor Troy Easton announced last week.

Easton has now revealed that Shroyer’s wife, Jackie, has been arrested in connection with his death, although he did not provide further details about the circumstances.

“Today, our grief and sadness is heightened beyond measure when we learn that his wife, Jackie Shroyer, has been arrested in connection with his death,” Easton wrote in an undated statement released by the church. “I love you so much, I am heartbroken and shocked that I have to send you such an update. I am deeply sorry and simply at a loss for words to express my disbelief and sadness at this news.”

Easton wrote that the missionaries there – SIM USA and SIM Angola – take care of the couple’s five children.

“It is impossible to imagine, but nevertheless it is quite real. As a community, we must pray to the Lord for His grace, mercy and comforting presence for the children and the Shroyer family,” Easton wrote.

Shroyer had previously described an area which family moved to a “remote forest village” without electricity, sewage or water supply. In a Facebook post the day before his death, Schroyer wrote that the Nineka people they served “are one of the most marginalized groups of people in Angola,” after he met a young man named “Mauricio” who was walking to school for about two hours. hours before the start of the lesson.

“They lack access to education. One of the goals of our ministry center is to provide vocational training to young people like Mauricio (to get training that will help them get a job,” Schroer wrote. “Mauricio is in 10th grade, probably 19 or 20 years old. He one of the few in the region who attends school beyond primary level.’

According to the paper, Shroyer worked for the Detroit Lakes Police Department in 2013 before becoming a real estate agent in the area.

David Dorman, who worked with Bo Shroyer at real estate years before Schroyer decided to leave for Africa, said that all the close family were shocked to learn of Beau’s death and his wife’s arrest.

“Because he was a wonderful person. I’m not sure I’ve ever met a more selfless person,” Dorman told Fox News Digital. “I’ve admired for years the courage it took to take that leap. He loved people and genuinely cared for those less privileged. It was a huge shock to the core to see it happen like this.”

Dorman said Beau’s passion for helping those in need was even prevalent in real estate, where the pair worked together on several complex and challenging deals.

“Because he was special. Because he cared about his clients… He was a true partner and loved what he did. His attitude was contagious and I truly enjoyed working with him,” said Dorman, who added that he often drove three hours to meet Beau at the closing and then have lunch together.

“He was one of the real ‘good guys’ in real estate. This is much less common than you think. I have been doing this for 13 years and it has stood out for all the reasons. A true servant at sea 100% customer advocate was nothing like him.

Dorman said Beau personally helped needy people move and often waived his commission to help the deal get to the finish line.

“I watched him fell trees, tear down sheds, clean up trash and more to help his clients get settled. The list is almost endless. The earth suffered a great loss because of his death. There are simply not many such good people,” Dorman said.

Dorman said Bo adored his wife and children, and he was not surprised to learn that Bo had decided to leave the United States for Africa, knowing that his faith in God was “really strong”. Dorman said Beau gave up a wildly successful real estate business to work in a third world country.

“It was the definition of brave and selfless. Because he made people want to be a better version of themselves. Not by force, but by example. I aspire to be like him,” Dorman said.

He said Bo would provide regular email updates on their mission, covering the highs and lows, some of which Dorman shared with Fox News Digital.

“Now we live in a house in the missionary compound in Lubango. It’s a big change from living in the heart of Señora do Monte,” the April email said. He said the family has “settled into the atmosphere and is loving it” by then, and mentioned that they are returning to Detroit Lakes in the summer and plan to perform at several churches.

Bo also wrote about the “extreme poverty” in the area and that he worked in the evenings. He also taught English lessons at their home three days a week Christian teenagers and young people.

“I now have seven students and about a million more who want to join!” he wrote.
