The incident comes amid a spate of hoax bomb threats that have affected flights and airports across India. On October 30, a false claim was published on social media that a bomb had been planted on an Air India flight from Delhi to Mumbai via Indore. Indore police have since registered a case against an unidentified person in connection with the hoax.

Over the past two weeks, more than 510 domestic and international flights have received bomb threats that ended up being hoaxes, creating a significant operational and financial burden on airlines. Most of these threats were spread through social networks.
