Jealous of social media popularity, a girl attacks her friend who is not in a relationship

MYSURU: Unable to cope with her growing number of followers on Instagram and Snapchat, a student along with her associates attacked her friend at home. The incident took place on the premises of the Udayagiri police station in Mysuru.

Shafia, a second-year student at a private college in Mysore, has been active on Instagram and Snapchat for about two years. Her growing popularity on these platforms has led to a significant following, which allegedly enraged Zoya, her estranged friend, to the point of a physical fight.

Zoya along with her friends Faraz and Moheen, according to the complaint, barged into Shafia’s Rajiv Nagar residence, facing a strange demand to immediately delete all her social media accounts. Tensions between the two have simmered for months, with Zoya repeatedly expressing her jealousy over Shafia’s popularity in the digital world. The situation escalated when Zoya and her two accomplices allegedly barged into Shafia’s house and physically assaulted her.

The victim filed a complaint that the accused broke a glass display case in the living room and even verbally abused Shafia in an attempt to intimidate her.

Police, who were alerted, rushed to the scene but the trio fled before they could be apprehended. Meanwhile, a counter-complaint was filed against Shafia stating that it was Shafia who first insulted the trio and tried to attack Faraz. The Udayagiri police have registered cases and are investigating the case.
