Man pleads guilty to reckless driving in crash that kills 13-year-old Colorado boy

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (KKTV) – The man responsible for the death of 13-year-old Oleksandr Matskevich is scheduled to be sentenced.

Matskevich’s life ended March 6 in Highlands Ranch when 53-year-old Ruben Morones hit him with his car. The accident happened at Highlands Ranch. Morones pleaded guilty to reckless driving this week according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

“The guilty plea is a step toward justice, but it does little to ease the deep loss Alex’s family and community are feeling,” said Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekley. “Precious lives have been lost due to careless choices and we will continue to work tirelessly to make our roads safer through public education and traffic enforcement. As sheriff, I am working with the Mackiewicz family and our legislature to strengthen the law and change the penalties for reckless driving that results in death.”

Morones’ sentencing is scheduled for January 7.
