Brake problems cause collision between bicyclist and pedestrian: Chase RCMP – Salmon Arm News

Faulty brakes led to the accident

It was a tough break for one Chase resident when faulty brakes caused a bicyclist to collide with a pedestrian in a crash that appeared to be intentional to at least one witness.

Chase Mountie received a report of an assault on Pine Street shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 8.

“A witness reported that the bicyclist intentionally crashed into the elderly man, knocking him to the ground,” said RCMP Const. Sarah Van Wilgenburg.

When police arrived, they interviewed the victim, the suspect, and a witness to get a handle on the case.

“The cyclist reported that she was rushing to the store to buy milk when her brakes failed,” Van Wilgenburg said. “She swerved to avoid a collision but accidentally clipped a pedestrian.”

The pedestrian was hit from behind and did not see what happened, hit his head in the accident and received minor injuries.

Paramedics examined the victim, and he did not require further assistance.

When police examined the bike, they confirmed that the brakes were not working properly and there was no evidence to support the allegation that the collision was intentional.
