Body of 33-year-old man found in Cuyahoga River identified as missing Avon Lake man

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A family is mourning the loss of a son and brother after he was found dead in the Cuyahoga River near the Carter Road drawbridge.

According to Cleveland Police, the victim was 33-year-old Vincent J. Zimmer.

Vincent was reported missing more than a week ago by his mother, Kathy Zimmer.

The Cleveland Fire Department found Zimmer in the Cuyahoga River just after 10 a.m. Thursday.

A city worker spotted the body while walking on the Carter Road Bridge.

“The Cleveland Police Department along with the Cleveland Fire Department and EMS responded. We were able to retrieve the body with the help of the Cleveland Fire Department and EMS,” said Sergeant Freddie Diaz.

Vincent lived in Avon Lake and had not been seen or heard from since Oct. 21, police said.

In the police report, Vincent’s mom says that Vincent recently received a $60,000 inheritance from his father, who passed away.

On Sunday, October 20, Vincent withdrew $5,000 from his bank account.

The last person Vincent’s mom says he hung out with was his girlfriend, who lives in Cleveland.

Police say they checked her home but did not find Vincent.

According to the police report, a social media post suggested that Vincent and his girlfriend may have been staying at a friend’s mother’s house.

However, when the police came to check the house, no one opened the door.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office will investigate.

“We have learned that it was a missing person from Avon and at this point we are on hold until the medical examiner determines the cause and then when the cause is determined we can continue the investigation,” said Sergeant Diaz.
