A Raleigh County man has pleaded guilty to drug trafficking

BECKLEY, WVNS (WVNS) – A Beckley man has pleaded guilty to participating in a drug trafficking organization.

Demetrius Terrell Burns, 32, of Beckley, pleaded guilty Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, fentanyl and cocaine, according to a news release.

Burns also revealed his involvement in a drug trafficking organization (DTO) that distributed methamphetamine, fentanyl and cocaine base, also known as “crack,” in Beckley and other areas in southern West Virginia.

According to court documents, Burns received the fentanyl in April 2024 from a Beckley supplier, and Burns used the fentanyl to supply Tilford co-defendant Joe Bradley Jr., according to the news release.

On April 12, 2024, Burns told Bradley over the phone that he had a shipment of “crude” fentanyl. Burns said he planned to sell Bradley $1,800 worth of unprocessed fentanyl and also to add a cutting agent to the fentanyl to make a bigger profit on the sale. Burns admitted he knew Bradley planned to redistribute drugs in areas in southern West Virginia.

Burns is scheduled to be sentenced on February 14, 2024, and faces up to 20 years in prison, at least three years of parole and a $1 million fine.
