Kelly Monaco is still set to appear on General Hospital this week after a shocking hospital scene

In August, PEOPLE confirmed that Monaco was exiting the series after 21 years

Kelly Monaco it’s not over with sam mccall yet!

Two months after Monaco was confirmed to air the popular soap General Hospital came to an end, her iconic character died in the show’s October 30 episode.

But this will not be the last time viewers see her.

Monaco will return for one more episode later this week to say goodbye to her before officially leaving the series, PEOPLE can confirm.

On the October 30 episode, Sam successfully came out of surgery and became engaged to Dante (Dominic Zamprogna). Soon after, she began to collapse, and despite attempts to resuscitate her, Sam died.

Actress in October broke her silence about leaving after 21 years General Hospital. In a deleted reply to a comment to Soap Hub’s Instagram which read, “What’s on your mind specifically, she didn’t get fired, she didn’t take a pay cut, so she had to leave,” Monaco revealed why she thought she was fired.

“There is no primary role…do your homework. When Billy Miller was fired, Sam’s storyline ended. Stripping Sam of all the traits she had,” she wrote. “Something I’ve been working on for decades… Slowly taking her apart, turning her into a character I didn’t recognize, let alone the audience. Call it what you will…revenge at its finest. I will give a corresponding statement. The truth will set you free.”

A few days before, on September 28, Monaco Karmina’s mother took to her Instagram talk about her daughter’s release.

“I want to take this moment to reach out to Kelly’s incredible fans and express my deepest gratitude for the unwavering love, dedication and support you have shown her throughout her time at General Hospital,” Carmina said. “On this final day, just four days before the anniversary of her first episode on October 1, 2003, Kelly will close her dressing room door for the last time.”

“It’s a difficult moment, but knowing that she has such an incredible, dedicated fan base has given her strength,” she continued. “You have supported her through all the twists and turns, celebrating her achievements and providing comfort during difficult times. Your love and devotion means more than words can say, not only to Kelly, but to all of us who care so deeply about her.”

It concluded: “Thank you for being there, believing in her and reminding her of the impact she made. We will always be grateful that you stuck with her through it all.”

When Monaco shot her last scene on October 6– the artist recalled the time spent on the soap.

“Last scene with the Davis girls,” she captioned her photo Instagram sitting with her colleagues. ” doesn’t make sense to me anyway.”

Monaco performed the role of Sam in 2003. Since then, she has appeared in over 2,000 episodes of the popular ABC soap opera. In 2006, she received a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her portrayal of the character.
