As fire and rescue units were examining one patient who was about to be taken to the hospital, the ground collapsed due to a washout from a broken fire hydrant, causing the back of an ambulance to fall into the washout.

The Seminole County Fire Department arrived to help extricate and transport the patient to the hospital because the ambulance was stuck in the ground.

After further investigation, Oviedo police determined that the 32-year-old Garcia was in good health and subsequently arrested him.

Garcia was taken to the Seminole County Jail and charged with DUI and refusal to submit to a test.

When the Oviedo Public Works crew arrived, they found the hydrant’s shutoff valve broken.

Around 9 o’clock in the morning on Friday, they found the valve and closed the hydrant.

The northbound lanes of Oviedo Boulevard between Mitchell Hammock Road and Center Lake Lane will be closed Friday while crews work to reopen the road.
