According to an AFM splash release, the film follows the American rapper, record producer, singer, songwriter and fashion designer’s rise to become the richest black man in American history, and reveals why the superstar risked everything he built for freedom. .

“Exploring the culture that gave birth to a star, In whose name? explores the impact of corporate exploitation, racial complexities, and psychological struggles inherent in the American Dream,” it reads.

Filming on the documentary began in 2018, when the artist first invited 18-year-old Nicolas Ballesteros to capture the unfiltered aspects of his famous life on his iPhone “to confront the provocative thoughts, grand visions and bold contradictions that defined him as a world leader. the most controversial artist”.

Currently in post-production, the doc was produced by Ballesteros with co-producers Jack M. Russell and Shai Renje. Justin Staple is co-executive producer and David Bullock is associate producer.
