Cayuga County man pleads not guilty to animal cruelty charges in kitten death

A Cayuga County man has been charged with animal cruelty after he allegedly severely injured a 13-week-old kitten, leading to its euthanasia.

Jeremy McNair, 22, pleaded not guilty Thursday in Cayuga County District Court to one count of aggravated cruelty to an animal and two counts of torturing or injuring an animal and failure to provide food.

New York State Police said McNair allegedly abandoned the kitten, severing its spinal cord and leaving it unable to function voluntarily.

Authorities and the Finger Lakes SPCA transported the kitten to a veterinary clinic, where it was euthanized due to its severe injuries.

His next court appearance is scheduled for December 12.
