Kanye West Doc “In Whose Name?” Submitted, published the first image

A documentary film shrouded in mystery about Kanye West surfaced, p Variety can reveal details for the first time, along with a title and first image.

The project called “In Whose Name?” filmed over the past six years, features never-before-seen footage and, according to the description, “promises to offer a uniquely cinematic look at Ye’s public transformation.” (In 2021, West changed its name to E.)

Well done and Utopia will join forces to launch international sales of “In Whose Name?” at the American Film Market with an exclusive promo clip on November 7.

The synopsis reads: “With a billion-dollar budget and a commitment to the truth, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, takes 18-year-old Nicolas Ballesteros of iPhone on a six-year journey, uncovering the unfiltered aspects of celebrity life to confront provocative opinions, grand visions and bold contradictions that identified him as the most controversial artist in the world. The film tells the story of how Yeh became the richest black man in American history, and at the same time explores why the superstar risked everything he had built in the name of freedom. Examining the culture that produced the star, “In Whose Name?” explores the overlapping influences of corporate exploitation, racial complexities, and psychological struggles inherent in the American Dream.”

Currently in post-production, “In Whose Name?” was created by Ballesteros with producers Jack M. Russell and Shay Range. Justin Staple is co-executive producer and David Bullock is associate producer.

“We are delighted to present ‘In Whose Name?’ in ASM” said Marie Zeniter, Vice President of Sales for Utopia, and Eva Diedericks, Head of Sales for Goodfellas. “This powerful documentary offers an unfiltered look without a narrative, inviting viewers to draw their own conclusions about the themes of fame, religion and power. We believe , that audiences around the world deserve a chance to see one of the world’s most influential figures navigate the complexities and controversies of celebrity.”

In recent years, West has become known less for his music and more for a series of incidents and controversies, including his high-profile marriage to Kim Kardashian and their subsequent divorce, his failed 2020 presidential campaign, and several of his anti-Semitic statements, which saw him lose various sponsorships and contracts. Although they are not mentioned in “In Whose Name?” description, Variety understands that those behind the project want its contents to remain secret. Given the time frame covered by the document, it seems likely that its controversies will be resolved in some way.

More news about the film and its upcoming release will be announced soon.
