Ottawa police say a driver who says he “just bought” a car has been charged with having unauthorized license plates

According to Ottawa police, a driver charged under the Highway Traffic Act for having unattached license plates told an officer the car was recently purchased.

Ottawa police say traffic officers using automatic license plate recognition technology stopped a driver with unattached license plates in the area of ​​Bank Street and Surrey Avenue.

“The driver with the license plates unattached stated that he had ‘just bought’ the vehicle and was simply going to ‘run some errands,'” police said on X.

The date of purchase was August 29, police said.

The driver faces charges of having unauthorized license plates, not having a license change, and not having insurance.

Police filed multiple charges Thursday in the area of ​​Carling Avenue and Holly Acres Drive.

Charges included speeding, no insurance and no licence.
