The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has sued social media critic VeryDarkMan for allegedly impersonating a police officer.

The controversy started when VeryDarkMan appeared in a viral video in police uniform, claiming to be the “Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Online Division”.

Police have launched an investigation to establish the origin of the uniform and the authority behind VeryDarkMan’s actions.

On Friday, the police announced that VeryDarkMan will be prosecuted for unauthorized use of a police uniform.

“In response to recent developments, VDM whose real name is Mr. Martins Otse will appear in court today following charges of impersonation in connection with the unauthorized use of the uniform of the Nigerian Police Force in a viral video on social media,” it said. law enforcement agencies. the agency wrote to X.

“The FCT Police Command is actively pursuing this matter underlining the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to maintain the integrity of its insignia and prevent its misuse.

VeryDarkMan previously apologized for his actions, clarifying that he never intended to impersonate the police.

“It was in no way my intention to impersonate the police and I apologize unreservedly to the Nigerian Police and the office of the Inspector General of Police…,” he said.

“I would like to use the medium to tell the general public to always ask permission from the police or other law enforcement agencies before wearing anything that might look like their uniform.

“You may want to use it for good, but there are others who may use it for evil, so it’s a good idea to get full permission before using anything that may impersonate @nigeriapoliceforce.”
