Arrested in the case of the October 10 disaster Western Colorado

A man was arrested and charged with vehicular assault in connection with a crash earlier this month.

Jacob Koenig, 42, is charged with vehicular assault while driving recklessly, reckless driving, failure to report an accident to police, failure to leave the scene of an accident, reckless driving resulting in bodily injury and speeding over 40 mph over limit.

According to a news release from the Grand Junction Police Department, the crash happened just after 9:00 p.m. on October 10.

“Officers discovered that a lorry traveling at a high rate of speed had collided with a car from behind, causing serious injuries to the other driver who remains in hospital. During a thorough check, it was established that the truck driver fled the scene before the arrival of law enforcement officers,” the police said.

The car’s passenger, 36-year-old Nicole Melvin, has been charged as an accomplice.

Both Koenig and Melvin appeared at the Mesa County Detention Center early Wednesday morning.

The victim is believed to be still in the hospital, according to District Attorney Dan Rubinstein.

ATM THEFT ATTEMPT

Two people attempted to rob an ATM at Grand Valley Bank in Palisade early Wednesday morning, according to the Palisade Police Department.

According to Palisade police, at least two suspects tried to steal an ATM using a stolen truck before possibly fleeing on foot.
