MEMPHIS, TN. — A 23-year-old woman has been charged with murder two years after a driver was killed in a crash in South Memphis.

Police said Jewel Rimes was speeding and driving recklessly when she hit a driver who stopped at a red light on May 30, 2022 at EH Crump and Danny Thomas.

Rhimes was driving west on Crump in a Nissan Altima when she crashed into a Chevrolet HHR, fatally injuring John Quimby, investigators said.

MPD said crash data records showed Rimes was driving 72.7 mph in a 40 mph collision zone. Rhimes is also charged with failure to exercise due care.

Court documents show Rhimes was charged with reckless driving in 2020.

The officer said he saw Rhimes weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed at Highland and Windover, nearly hitting two cars. The misdemeanor charge was later dropped.

Rimes is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
