Gang members convicted of assaulting elderly couple at Thousand Oaks Mall

Two gang members were sentenced this week for their part in a brutal attack on two elderly people in Thousand Oaks earlier this month, leading to a wild police chase.

Corey Thomas, 18, and Jonathan Requejo, each, were sentenced to two years in state prison on Tuesday. Ventura County This is reported by the District Prosecutor’s Office. Thomas and Requejo pleaded guilty to multiple felonies for the attack, including second-degree robbery and elder abuse. Jurors also found several special circumstances valid because of the “extreme brutality” of the attack, which left a man and a woman seriously injured.

This happened on June 27, 2024. At the time, prosecutors said Thomas, Requejo and three juveniles brutally assaulted two elderly people at Macy’s in the Oaks Mall. The attack was caught on surveillance cameras. Both victims were seriously injured during the attack.

The group took their Rolex, purse and cell phone before getting into the car and driving off.

Officials found their fleeing car, but the driver sped off, leading officers on a high-speed police chase on the 101. During the chase, officials said one of the people in the car threw a gun out the window.

Eventually, the car stopped, and several crew members ran after it. Officials managed to arrest everyone.

“While we cannot undo the irreparable harm caused to these victims, we hope that today’s sentences show that we will prosecute those responsible for violent crimes to the fullest extent,” said Deputy District Attorney Hayley Moyer.
