Teenager pleads not guilty to involuntary manslaughter and fatal rollover accident charges

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A 17-year-old Anchorage teenager facing adult charges in connection with a truck crash that killed a passenger pleaded not guilty Thursday afternoon.

Stefan Shearer is currently charged with manslaughter and tampering with evidence after allegedly driving a Ford F-350 and crashing it while under the influence.

Although paramedics rushed to the scene after the crash, one of the truck’s two teenage passengers did not survive after being extricated from where he was pinned under the truck.

Shearer is out on bail and under house arrest from October 16failed to appear in court Thursday. Instead, his lawyer appeared in court with Shearer on the phone.

Shearer has yet to appear in person, only confirming his presence by telephone to the judge once on Thursday. Neither Shearer’s parents nor the victim’s family were present. A restraining order that prevents Shearer from contacting the surviving victim or the families of any teenagers who were present the night of the crash remains in effect.

Shearer’s representative, John Cashion, declined to comment to Alaska’s News Source about why he pleaded not guilty.

Shearer’s next court hearing is scheduled for December.
