Owner faces charges after stabbing, fight in Iowa City

An Iowa City nightclub owner has been charged with disorderly conduct after two women were stabbed inside the club on Sunday.

Adesola Miller, 31, of Iowa City, owns The Haven, which bills itself as a smoothie and juice bar and performance venue. Two women were stabbed at the scene around 1 a.m. Sunday. Then around 2:30 a.m., a fight broke out between 20 and 30 people inside The Haven, according to the criminal complaint.

Miller was present during both incidents and “made no effort or attempt to prevent conduct that threatened to injure people or damage property,” the complaint states.

Lacey Lari Bode, 35, of Iowa City, was arrested Monday in connection with the stabbing. She was charged with two counts of malicious wounding and one count each of being armed, assault with a dangerous weapon and assault with a dangerous weapon on a pregnant person.

Police officers who were near the scene were called to the stabbing shortly before Miller arrived, and Haven security later called officers again to help break up the fight.

This is the second time Miller has been charged with disorderly conduct. At 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 4, Miller was hosting a party at The Haven with loud music that could be heard in the alley. There were about 50 people in the building and 20 people congregating outside, and Miller had been warned repeatedly in the past about noise coming from the facility, the complaint said.

Miller pleaded guilty to domestic disorderly conduct filed in September and was fined $105.
