The director of “Squid Games” talks about the second season

Squid gameWriter-director Hwang Dong-hyuk and the show’s two stars, Lee Jung-jae and Wi Ha-joon, visited Italy’s Lucca Comics and Games on Thursday and revealed new details about the hit movie. Netflix the second season of the series.

When asked about what fans of the mega-hit Korean-language survival drama can expect, Hwang revealed the “biggest difference” between the first and second seasons.

“If Season 1 was about the story of Gi Hoon (Lee) or player no. 456, who enters the Squid Game for the first time and tells the story of how he survives and leaves the game victorious, Season 2 will be about how Gi Hoon (will) face his memories of the first game, the experience of going through a new awareness, waking up and getting back into the game to stop this unfair game,” he said.

Hwang — who was the first Asian to win an Emmy for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series — also told the crowd of mostly Italian fans who packed the 17th-century Teatro del Giglio in Lucca that the second season will feature two Italian songs: Giacomo Puccini’s ” Nessun Dorma” from the opera “Turandot” and “Time to say goodbye” (aka “Con te partirò”) performed by Andrea Bocelli.

Season 2 will be released on December 26, and the third season will take place in 2025.

The first season of The Squid Game is considered to be the most popular television season in Netflix history. The series received 14 Emmy nominations with 6 wins. In addition to Hwang’s win, Lee also won Best Actor in a Drama Series and Lee Yoo Mi won Best Actress in a Drama.
