Ermelo police are investigating a double homicide, the third shooting in 2 weeks

ERMELO. Police are now investigating a double homicide that happened on October 30 in Wesselton.

An ambulance was dispatched to the scene, where two men with multiple gunshot wounds were pronounced dead.

No suspects have yet been arrested, according to Capt. Karla Prinsloo, Ermelo police spokeswoman.

“We cannot confirm a motive at this stage,” Prinsloo said.

“Initial indications are that these individuals may have been targeted, but this is speculation as the investigation is still in its early stages. As we gather more information, we hope to clarify the circumstances of the incident.”

This incident happened after the shooting of a 25-year-old man who was killed at a car wash in Quebezel, Wesselton, on Friday 18 October.

Prinsloo said the victim was sitting in a local store with a group of friends when he was approached by two men armed with handguns.

“The suspects fired at the man, striking him several times,” Prinsloo said. He died at the scene.

The suspects then fled in an unmarked VW Polo parked further down the road.

In another unrelated incident, a lorry driver was shot dead along the N2 at around 02:40 on October 31, just a few kilometers before the Shipmoor turnoff.

The truck driver, who was believed to have stopped to rest, was shot in the leg during the armed robbery, according to a local provincial EMS paramedic.

The driver told paramedics he was startled by the noise, and while investigating, he encountered an armed suspect who, along with three others, had stolen eight wheels from the truck.

The driver was hospitalized at Ermelo Provincial Hospital, and is currently in a stable condition.

Highvelder has sent an inquiry about the shooting of the truck driver to Shipmoor police spokesperson Sergeant Thembelihle Mshaisi and is awaiting a response.
