A man has pleaded not guilty to a fatal crash that killed a man and a dog in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – A man accused of hitting and killing a Gainesville man who was walking his dog has pleaded not guilty.

Clayton Wamsley, 18, of Gainesville, pleaded not guilty Thursday.

The Wamsleys have been charged with vehicular homicide in the Jan. 2 death of 42-year-old Matthew Umanos.

A sworn complaint was filed against him in Alachua County Circuit Court on Tuesday, alleging that Wamsley was texting while driving when he hit Umanos, ultimately killing both him and his dog, Elmira.

He also faces a charge of driving with a suspended or revoked license causing serious injury or death.

Although Wamsley faces two felony charges and one misdemeanor charge, he has not been arrested.
