Chief Minister Atisha on Thursday accused the police in her home constituency of Kalkaji of trying to “hush up” incidents of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ramesh Bidhuri and his nephews threatening Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers and supporters. She also wrote to polling station officials alleging that the SHO of Govindpuri pressured AAP workers to give false statements instead of investigating their complaints.

Ramesh Bidhuri called Atisha’s complaint baseless and an attempt to put unnecessary pressure on the administration. Bidhuri filed a counter-complaint with the Kalkaji constituency election commission official, demanding strict police action against those filing “false” complaints.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Ravi Kumar Singh said, “We are investigating the complaint. Nothing more can be said, as the investigation is ongoing.”

Another police officer, who did not want to be named, said that on January 21, a fight broke out between AAP and BJP workers over pasting of stickers. Police had not been tipped off by any group, the officer said. “Later, a complaint came from an AAP candidate (Atisha) who accused BJP workers of threatening and attacking its supporters. It named at least seven AAP volunteers. It is also claimed that they have video recordings of the threats and assault. A message was sent to Atisha asking her to share the videos and contact details of the volunteers. However, nothing was shared. So we collected details of at least four volunteers, visited them and recorded their statements,” the officer said.

An official from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi said that they have received the complaint and forwarded it to the Delhi Police.
