A man pleads guilty to murder News

On Wednesday, a 38-year-old man confessed to the murder without a formal plea deal.

Cornell Cooper, 38, pleaded guilty to murdering Heston Adderley on June 28, 2024, when he appeared before Senior Judge Cheryl Grant-Thompson.

Adderley was repairing a motorcycle in Seven Hills, New Providence, when Cooper approached him and cut his throat with a box cutter, Director of Public Prosecutions Cordell Fraser told the court.

According to her, the witness identified Cooper as the attacker.

Cooper has been in custody since last June.

Sonia Timothy-Knowles, barrister, said Cooper told her Adderley was armed with a knife, which he did not use.

She said Cooper was remorseful and admitted to the crime when questioned by police.

Grant-Thompson will hear sentencing submissions on January 31.
