The Samsung Galaxy S25 is official from Samsung — and an XR device and a cheaper foldable could also be on the way

The rumor mill basically guaranteed that we would see Samsung Galaxy S25 early next year, but now we’ve got the first official information about the phone, which comes from a message from Samsung itself.

Samsung quarterly earnings report for the third quarter of 2024 mentions the Galaxy S25 series by name, saying it is part of Samsung’s mobile division, which is focusing on future premium products, including the Galaxy Z foldable.

The S25 is apparently “the first half of next year,” which includes an expected release date of January 2025, but could also hint at a later launch, perhaps if Samsung decides it’s somehow beneficial.

The report also says that the S25 “plans to improve the Galaxy AI experience to drive innovation in everyday life,” suggesting that the new model will focus more on its software than hardware upgrades, despite a number of rumored changes , such as a larger display on the base modeland round back panel for Ultra and Snapdragon 8 Elite chipsets.

Samsung XR is not dead

The Galaxy S25 news wasn’t the only interesting tidbit from this report. This also applies to the XR device, originally teased to launch this year from Samsung, Google and Qualcommwhich is expected to be Samsung’s answer to Apple Vision Pro which started back in February.

Samsung’s report refers to the XR device in the context of “strengthening the connection between our products,” possibly implying that it will be an add-on device to a Samsung phone, tablet, or laptop rather than a stand-alone gadget.

The only other detail we’re getting is that it’s set to launch “in the future,” which is still pretty vague for our liking, but at least indicates the project isn’t dead. but other reports suggest a March 2025 release may be in the cards.

If that wasn’t enough proof that the Samsung XR is coming, the new one is Android Authority the report says that there is now mention of support for the XR headset in the Google Play Store app We haven’t heard of any other major Android brands working on XR headsets, so it’s likely that Google is laying the groundwork for when Samsung is ready.

A cheaper folding one is still an option

A lot already points to new Samsung devices, but a report from Yuklanlosreve on X (through 9to5Google) says that during a recent conference call, Samsung discussed the option of creating a more affordable foldable phone.

Although Samsung recently said that cheaper sophisticated devices are not on the horizon, it appears to still be considering them, as it said: “We are looking at ways to lower the barriers to entry so that more customers can truly experience sophisticated products, given high satisfaction of existing users of complex devices. .”

During that call, Samsung also said it’s “working on new form factors,” which could refer to a tri-folding phone like Huawei Mate XTor perhaps a mobile phone that can expand and contract its display to suit the user’s needs.

They won’t come until “they reach a level of quality and experience that satisfies customers in a real-world usage environment,” so we can assume that it may still be a while before we see an all-new foldable Samsung on the market.
