A district court in Jos on Tuesday sentenced 22-year-old Smart Yahai, a bus conductor, to three months in prison for criminal intimidation and causing grievous bodily harm.

Judge Shavomi Bockos sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the crime.

The judge, who gave the convict the option of a €20,000 fine, also asked him to pay €35,000 in compensation or spend an additional three months in prison in default.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Inspector Monday Dabit, told the court that the incident was reported on December 12, 2024 by Mr Shanuhli Salisu of Laranto Police Station, Jos.

He said the appellant told the police that the convict and one Habu Abubakar, who is now at large, conspired and beat him there, causing serious injuries to his right leg.

Dabit said that during the investigation by the police, the suspect confessed to the crime.

He said the offense was against the Penal Code Act of Plateau Northern State of Nigeria.
