The hunter’s remains were found after he was apparently mauled by a bear in Alaska, authorities said.

The incident occurred Tuesday at approximately 6:17 p.m. when Alaska State Police were alerted to a late hunter named Ted Fujioka, 50, in Sitka, Alaska, located about 600 miles southeast of Anchorage. he was late from a deer hunting trip, according to a statement from the Alaska Department of Public Safety on Wednesday.

“On October 30, 2024, Alaska Wildlife Service, USCG and Sitka SAR conducted a ground search with three search teams in a remote wooded area transported by an AWT patrol vessel and a Sitka SAR vessel,” authorities said in announcing Fujioka’s death. . “At approximately 11:30 a.m., search teams found Fujioka’s remains. The investigation showed that he was probably the victim of a fatal bear mauling.”

Authorities have not released any details of their investigation into how the crash happened, but confirmed that his body has been found and his next of kin have been notified.

Currently, a pre-trial investigation into the alleged mauling of the bear is ongoing.
