Allegations against Haryana BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli ‘serious, higher command will take note’: Anil Vij

Terming the allegations against Haryana BJP president Mohan Lal Badoli as “very serious”, state power minister Anil Vij on Wednesday said he was confident the party high command would take note.

Haryana's Power Minister Anil Vij's statement came a day after an FIR surfaced naming Badoli and singer Jai Bhagwan alias Rocky Mittal on charges of gangsterism and criminal intimidation in Himachal Pradesh's Solan district. (HT file)

Vij’s comments come a day after an FIR was filed against Badoli and singer Jai Bhagwan alias Rocky Mittal, accused of gang crimes and criminal intimidation in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district.

A case was registered at the Kasauli police station on December 13, 2024, where a woman, who was working in Sonepat at the time, alleged that she was raped after being forced to drink alcohol at a hotel in Kasauli.

Co-accused Jai Bhagwan, a native of Kaithal, was the head of the Haryana government’s Special Promotion Unit during the Manohar Lal Khattar-led BJP government. Both defendants called the accusations “baseless and politically motivated.”

The statement by Vijay, the senior-most minister in the state cabinet, came at a time when Badoli, who unsuccessfully contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Sonepat, was eyeing another term as Haryana BJP president.

So far, there has been no comment from Chief Minister Nayab Saini or the high command, while the opposition Congress has pointed guns at Badoli, calling for his removal.

The state secretariat of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Haryana demanded the arrest of both the accused. Party state secretary Prem Chand in a statement expressed surprise as to how the FIR against such a senior politician remained secret for so long.

At MDU Rohtak, the National Students Organization also burnt an effigy of Badoli, demanding his resignation and arrest.

Badoli, a Brahmin leader, was also absent from the event where the statue of freedom fighter Pandit Sriram Sharma was unveiled by CM Saini in Rohtak.
