A Markham resident tells CP24 about his encounter with five suspects who broke into his home and stole two of his cars.

A Markham man said he feared for the safety of his wife and two children when five suspects armed with a hammer and a knife broke into his home this week.

Speaking to CP24 Wednesday night, the man, who did not want to be identified, described what happened early Monday morning at his residence in the area of Steeles Avenue East and Grandview Avenue.

He said he was in bed when he heard the crash.

“I thought maybe my kitty dropped some stuff, but it was like a fish,” the man said, so he went downstairs to find five men armed with hammers and a knife.

“I was kind of shocked. I said to them, “Who are you?” And they shouted to me: “Bring the key! Bring the Ferrari key. I need a Ferrari key.”

When the two suspects tried to get to the second floor, the man said he got in the way because his family was upstairs.

“I stopped them. I said, ‘I gave you the key and follow me,'” the man recalled, who then led them to his office room on the main floor, where the keys were.

“I gave them the key and they made me open the garage door because they didn’t have the password and I opened the garage door.”

After seeing another vehicle, a white BMW, blocking the path, the man said the suspects also demanded the keys to that vehicle. He obeyed.

The suspects soon left in their Ferrari and BMW.

While that was happening, the man said his wife, who was locked in the bedroom with their two children, called 911. He said police arrived on the scene minutes after the suspects fled.
