One fatality in a hit-and-run shooting, FMPD said


Two lanes of traffic were blocked due to the incident.

One person was killed in a hit-and-run shooting, Fort Myers police said Sunday night just before 7 p.m.

Around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Fort Myers police said the incident blocked two westbound lanes of Colonial Boulevard at Ortiz Avenue.

Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a 2004 Saturn SUV with Florida tags “CE50MX.”

In a press release posted on their Facebook page, police said the SUV is matte or black in color with clear decals on the rear driver and passenger sides. The car has split wheels, a ball hitch and damage to the rear bumper.

Officer Christine Capuzzi, a Fort Myers police spokeswoman, confirmed that this is the seventh homicide in the city this year.

Police said this is an isolated incident and are urging witnesses to contact them at 239-321-7700 or the SWFL Crime Squad at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).

They are also urging anyone who may encounter the SUV in question to stay away.
