Why did Neena Gupta call director Pritish Nandy a ‘Bas***d’ after his death? The actress deleted the post after criticism

On January 9, director Pritish Nandy breathed his last. Directors Sudhir Mishra and Hansal Mehta, actors Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sayani Gupta and Sanjay Dutt among others paid tributes to the veteran journalist, poet and director, who died at the age of 73. However, it was Neena Gupta’s message that caught the attention of social media.

After the death of Pritish Nandy, Neena Gupta wrote on social media, “No RIP… Do you know what Pritish did to me? He stole the birth certificate of my daughter Masaba Gupta and published it. So, no RIP, you know? I have proof of this.”

The actress received massive criticism for her comments. However, Neena Gupta’s comments were from her past when she was waiting for Masab. The actress was unmarried and pregnant, so she wanted to keep her pregnancy inconspicuous. It was Nandy who allegedly released her birth certificate, revealing to the world that Masaba’s father was Vivian Richards, the famous West Indies cricketer. This seemed to anger Neena Gupta. However, after that, the actress deleted the comments.

Veteran journalist, poet and filmmaker Pritish Nandy passed away in Mumbai on January 8. Nandy (73), a Padma Shri awardee, died of a cardiac arrest at his home in south Mumbai and was last rites in the evening. In a post on social media, veteran actor and Nandy’s friend Anupam Kher paid tribute to him.

“Deeply saddened and shocked to learn of the passing of one of my dearest and closest friends #PritishNandy! An amazing poet, writer, director and a brave and unique editor/journalist!” – wrote Kher. “He was my support system and a great source of strength in my initial days in Mumbai. We had a lot in common. He was also one of the most fearless people I have ever met. Always larger than life. I learned so much. We didn’t meet him much, but there was a time I’ll never forget when he surprised me by putting me on the cover of The Illustrated. Weekly (magazines edited by Nandy),” added Kher. Nandy was a former Rajya Sabha member of the Shiv Sena and also an animal rights activist. His company Pritish Nandy Communications (PNC) produced such films Sur, Kaante, Jhankaar Beats, Chameli, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and Pyaar Ke Side Effects and also produced a web series Four more strokes, please!
