MLK Day program for youth at the Corning gallery

CORNING, NEW YORK (WET) — Children and teens living in the Corning area can spend Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrating King’s legacy with free activities.

171 Cedar Arts Center invites families to the Making Real the Dream program from noon to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, January 20. Participants will spend half the day at the Drake House (located at 155 Cedar St.) attending musical performances, listening to stories and more. The program is free and open to everyone, but registration is required.

The program will begin with a scheduled lunch. The afternoon will be followed by a choir performance and speakers from the Katherine P. Center for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Douglas at Corning Community College. During the day, participants will be able to listen to African drumming, flute and trombone playing. There will also be a dance master class and a story. Teenagers have the opportunity to take part in a master class in ceramics instead of the usual program.

Parents and guardians can register for Make a Dream Come True on the 171 Cedar Arts website. When registering, people will have the option to choose a general program or a youth ceramics workshop. The number of places is limited (especially for the ceramics workshop), so those interested should register as soon as possible.
