On Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 30, 2024, Iowa authorities announced the search for 7-year-old Bryson Lewis Duong (right and center). He was found with 34-year-old Brandon Duong.

Duong’s sentence comes after Amber alert led officers on a high-speed chase and three-hour standoff near Remsen, Iowa, earlier this year.

On Tuesday, Jan. 30, Brandon Duong is accused of abducting his 7-year-old son, Bryson Duong, from Greene County Elementary School around 12:45 p.m. The Bryson alert was issued around 4:40 p.m.

The custody order to which Brandon pleaded guilty was filed in December 2023. As previously reported, the order limited Duong’s custody of his son.

Plymouth County deputies said law enforcement learned Duong may have been armed during the chase. Duong reportedly had his son with him during the confrontation over the shoulder while law enforcement had their weapons pointed at them.

Three hours later, Duong surrendered and was booked into the Greene County Jail. He was charged with kidnapping in the second degree and violating the order of detention.

In February, Duong pleaded not guilty to second-degree kidnapping. In March, a judge ruled that Duong was competent appear before the court after a psychiatric examination.
