A nine-metre fire is reported to be burning in a house in the Campbell River area

Residents were inside the home on Island Howe when the fire broke out Tuesday night, but got out safely

A house fire south of Campbell River on Tuesday night was reported to have flames up to nine meters high, says the chief of Campbell River Fire and Rescue.

Crews responded about 7:30 p.m. to the Island Highway home and found it fully involved, Fire Chief Dan Worden said.

Two other homes were threatened by flames and heat, but crews were able to protect them, Verden said.

Crews also had to contend with downed power lines.

Residents were at home when the fire started, but got out safely.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established.
