Former MLB All-Star Francisco Cordero Robbed at Gunpoint in Dominican Republic: Reports

Former MLB closer Francisco Cordero was robbed at gunpoint outside a grocery store in the Dominican Republic last week in what he believed to be a targeted attack, according to reports.

According to El Nuevo Diario, the incident captured on a surveillance camera showed the moment the 49-year-old former pitcher was robbed of what appeared to be a chain while he was sitting with others at a table outside a grocery store.

Footage published on social networkstwo masked people can be seen approaching the store on a motorcycle.

One of the suspects gets off his motorcycle and immediately lunges at Cordero with a gun pointed at him. Cordero can be seen raising his arms as the masked thief appears to grab a chain from around his neck.

The suspect returns to the motorcycle, but not before tripping over another motorcycle in an attempt to escape.

Cordero told N Digital in the Dominican Republic that he does not believe the attack was random.

“It doesn’t look like it was a random robbery because the assailant jumped off his motorcycle, grabbed a gun and walked right up to me, took off my chain and drove off,” he said, via a New York Post translation.

“He did not take any money that was in my pockets, nor my mobile phone, nor did he contact anyone.”

Cordero added that he could not identify the suspects because of their masks. According to the report, the robbery took place in the area of ​​the village American Embassy.
