What to expect:

Temperatures will be relatively mild in the mid 20s for most of Minnesota on Friday. Daytime temperatures in the Twin Cities are in the 25s, while northern areas will be colder in the teens.

In the afternoon, a mostly cloudy sky is expected, with occasional sunshine. Snow flurries are possible in some places, but it will not accumulate. The wind will be northwesterly at 10-15 m/s.

At night it will be quiet, with showers and brief cloudiness.

What’s next:

Snow will arrive in northwest Minnesota Saturday morning and gradually move south and east throughout the day. The Twin Cities could see snowflakes arrive before noon and linger for part of Sunday.

While the metro area could get about an inch of snow, northern regions could see several inches of snow.

A cold front that follows the snowflakes will lead to a sharp drop in temperature. Sunday will begin with temperatures in the low to mid 20s, but will drop steadily throughout the day, reaching lows by evening and dropping below freezing overnight.

Monday will bring even colder conditions with wind chills below zero. The cold will be short-lived, as the temperature will rise again to 20-30 degrees by the middle of the week.
