Police release video of Markham home invasion; 3 teenagers in custody – CP24

Police in York Region have released video showing several suspects breaking into a home and stealing luxury cars.

Three teenagers are in custody and two more suspects are wanted in connection with a home invasion that was caught on camera in Markham this week, York Regional Police said.

A home in the area of Steeles Avenue East and Grandview Avenue was broken into around 4 a.m. on Oct. 28.

Video of the incident released by police on Wednesday shows five suspects jumping over a metal fence, and several suspects appear to be carrying hammers.

According to police, the suspects entered the home by breaking down the back door, and once inside, they threatened the victim and demanded the keys to his Ferrari and BMW SUV.

The men are later seen on video with the victim opening the garage door for the suspects.

Once inside the garage, one suspect can be seen jumping into a Ferrari. The video shows the suspect attempting to back out of the garage several times before hitting another vehicle parked in the driveway.

Eventually, the suspects take off in a Ferrari and a BMW SUV, which was also in the lane at the time. The other suspects were seen on camera fleeing the area in a black Acura TLX parked outside. That car was also stolen, police said, and investigators said they suspect it was involved in the Oct. 21 robbery of a jewelry store in Markham.

The stolen Acura was later found in the area of Martin Grove Road and Steeles Avenue, investigators said.

“Members of the squad detained the vehicle and the two youths were taken into custody shortly thereafter,” the police said in a press release.

Police added that the stolen BMW was found near Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue, while the Ferrari was found in the area of Highway 50 and Fogal Road in Brampton.

On Wednesday, members of the Arrest Squad and Emergency Response Units executed a search warrant at a home in Vaughan “regarding a third suspect,” police said.

“While the suspect was not at the residence, he was later located and arrested in the Town of Pickering,” the release said.

Police said the suspects in custody are 15, 16 and 17 years old. They are each charged with one count each of armed robbery, willful concealment and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. At the time of the incidents, the 17-year-old was on probation and the 15-year-old was on a warrant for an unrelated crime, police said.

None of the suspects can be identified under the provisions of the Juvenile Criminal Justice Act.

Investigators said they are still looking for two suspects, who they believe are males between the ages of 16 and 20.

“The investigation is ongoing and police would like to speak to anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage in the area at the time of the incident,” the news release said.
