Community reaction

Riddell Reed has lived on Milwaukee’s north side for 50 years. But he said he had never seen anything like it.

“I heard about eight or nine, 10 shots. It was a lot,” Reed said.

He was walking his dog on Tuesday night, shortly before 10, when he heard gunshots, followed by a group of children.

“One of the guys who was shooting was wounded and laying there on the ground,” Reid recalled. “They were supposed to be at home getting ready for school or something.”

The shooting happened just hours after it was announced in Milwaukee County gun violence prevention initiative under the name “Advanced peace”. Federally funded, the fellowship connects mentors with youth, providing enrollment and opportunities for growth.

“They need to put down their guns and go get an education,” Reid said.

In a statement to FOX6 News, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley specifically said, “I encourage members of the community to lower the temperature and strive for peace. Violence prevention will not happen without all of us, especially our adults, providing mentorship and serving as positive examples for our youth.”
