Man accused of drunken driving in fatal crash near Bigfork pleads not guilty

KALISPELL — A man is accused of driving drunk and crashing into a car near Bigfork, killing one person and leaving another seriously wounded in a coma appeared in Flathead County District Court Thursday morning.

Remote via Zoom Dal Segall, 41, of Corvallis, pleaded not guilty to one count of homicide by vehicle under the influence and three counts of negligent assault.

Segal is not currently in custody as he remains at large $500,000 bail.

The crash happened Dec. 1 on Montana Highway 83 near the Echo Lake Cafe.

Segall is accused of passing a vehicle in a prohibited zone, causing a head-on collision.

Wyatt Potts, 33, died at the scene of the crash. Three others were seriously injured, including Potts’ fiancee, Teresa Brandt.

Court documents say a Montana State Highway Patrol trooper noticed Segall smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes at the scene of the crash.

Segall admitted to being the driver of the car and drinking alcohol at the Garden Bar in Big Fork before getting behind the wheel.

AND peaceful protest held outside the Flathead County Courthouse on Wednesday, January 8, advocating for stricter IRS laws.

Segal is a repeat offender.

The jury trial is scheduled for September 8, 2025.
