An Omaha woman has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge

A 32-year-old Omaha woman faces up to 20 years in prison after being found guilty Monday in Douglas County District Court of being an accessory to murder.

Brandi Williams pleaded no contest after prosecutors changed her charge to first-degree murder. Williams, who is being held without bail, will be sentenced in April.

Williams was initially charged with complicity in murder. Prosecutors later changed the charge to first-degree murder, saying Williams was an “active participant” in the robbery that ended in the July 15, 2023, death of 21-year-old Quayvon Tucker.

Police were called to the area of 14th Avenue and Pinckney Street, west of Carter Lake, around 9:30 p.m. Officers found Tucker with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Nebraska Medical Center, where he died.

Prosecutors said surveillance video showed Tucker getting into a gold sedan before getting out and falling to the ground. This car is said to have belonged to Williams.

Prosecutors also said Tucker and Williams knew each other before his murder. The two were allegedly involved in unspecified “financial crimes” along with an uncharged third party known as “Jr.”

According to prosecutors, Tucker’s girlfriend told police about her suspicions about Williams because she allegedly saw Tucker chatting with Williams on Facebook just before he was killed. Prosecutors said a search warrant issued on Williams’ phone showed she was at the scene of the murder and revealed communications with “Junior” about plans to rob Tucker.

Williams was interviewed by detectives and, according to prosecutors, she initially claimed she was the only person in the car, then changed her story and said “Junior” was also there. The police have not announced the identity of the “junior” and have not announced whether the investigation knows his full name.
