Driver crashes after Chesterfield Twp. police chase

Chesterfield police on Tuesday pulled over a driver wanted for fleeing and eluding Warren officers and began a pursuit.

Warren, 24, was the only occupant of the car when it crashed after fleeing from officers, the Chesterfield Police Department said in a statement.

Police have not released the suspect’s name.

According to the release, officers first saw the man in the car at 10:38 p.m. Tuesday as he was traveling eastbound on Interstate 94 north of Rosseau Highway.

He allegedly fled eastbound from officers who attempted to detain him.

Officers successfully punctured two of the car’s tires with brake sticks before the driver attempted to exit I-94 onto the 23 mile marker, lost control on the exit and went off the road, the statement said.

Law enforcement officers provided assistance to a man who was injured as a result of a traffic accident. Medstar Ambulance took him to McLaren Macomb Hospital for treatment of injuries that authorities said were not life-threatening.

The investigation of the incident continues, the department said.

The incident comes weeks after a Monroe man who led Michigan State Police and Monroe County sheriff’s deputies on a 45-minute car chase was arrestedofficials said.

According to the Michigan State Police, 23 people died and 148 were seriously injured from October 22 to 29.

The total of 865 deaths and 4,666 serious injuries to date in 2024 is still less than the total for both categories in 2023.
