An Outagamie County deputy was nearly hit by an alleged drunk driver

BUCHANAN, Wis. (WBAY) – An Outagame County Sheriff’s Deputy is safe after he was nearly hit by an alleged drunken driver early Tuesday morning.

Officials say Deputy Brent Baxter was stopped on County Highway CE near County Highway N in Buchanan around 1:00 a.m. Tuesday morning to remove a dead deer from the road when he saw an oncoming vehicle fail to move from way

A large SUV crashed into Deputy Baxter’s team, pushing the vehicle 75 feet down the road. The SUV then crossed the median and nearly hit Baxter when he veered off the road. The SUV eventually came to a rest on the westbound ramp to CE.

The driver of the SUV tried to flee, but Baxter took him into custody. The driver has been identified as 35-year-old Christopher Kitchenakov, who is facing an alleged OWI third offense.

Officials say the patrol car is wrecked.
