The suspects claimed murder

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – Two people who fled the scene of a crime in the early morning turned themselves in.

At 1:10 a.m. Wednesday morning, Jacob Koenig and Nicole Melvin showed up at the Mesa County Detention Center. They both had warrants for their arrest after fleeing the scene on Oct. 10.

Jacob Ryan Koenig is accused of:

  • Assault on a motor vehicle while driving carelessly
  • Reckless driving
  • It was not possible to report the accident to the police
  • Failed to stay put after the accident
  • Careless driving causing personal injury
  • Speeding (40 mph over the Prima Facie limit)

Nicole Serena Melvin is accused of:

  • Involvement in vehicular assault while careless driving
  • Involvement in failing to remain at the scene/provide information after an accident
  • An attempt to influence a public servant

Grand Junction police say they want to thank members of the community for their help in the investigation

Two suspects fled the scene after being hit by a car.

Law enforcement agencies reported that the truck was traveling at high speed and crashed into the vehicle from behind. The victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The Grand Junction Police Department said their investigation revealed that the driver of the truck was Jacob Koenig and his passenger was Nicole Melvin. The two are said to have fled before law enforcement officers arrived at the scene.

Warrants were issued for both Koenig and Melvin and they are still missing. The police department is asking citizens to help in this matter. Anyone with information is asked to call non-emergency dispatch at 970-242-6707 and quote GJPD incident number 24-52028. The accident happened near 28 ¾ Road and North Avenue on October 10. The victim is still in the hospital.
