Mid Devon Council could increase service charges to make up the budget shortfall

Devon council’s potential funding shortfall has more than doubled following changes to state funding.

Mid Devon County Council said it is struggling with a potential funding shortfall of £450,000 next year, well above the £191,000 hole it said it needed to fill.

He blamed the loss of the subsidy for village councils and the increase in National Insurance levies announced in the October Budget.

The revised budget report recommended councilors make up the shortfall by raising fees for some services, including finding planning land, providing bins and burial plots.
