The Green Bay Packers should be happy with where they are, but not satisfied.

At 6-2, the Packers are looking pretty good to make the playoffs. They have won four straight and recently passed the Minnesota Vikings, who suffered their first loss, in the NFC North standings. There is much to worry about the rest of the way.

However, the Packers don’t look like a dominant team and have less than a week left to improve their roster. So far, Green Bay has been dormant at the trade deadline, and it would be a mistake to stay that way.

The defensive line should be the number one priority for the Packers at this point, as the lack of a dominant pass rush is a clear Achilles heel. Bleacher Report’s Christopher Knox called the Packers as a fit for New Orleans Saints edge rusher Chase Young in a possible blockbuster trade on Wednesday.

“The Green Bay Packers may also be interested in adding someone like Young as they look to chase the Detroit (Lions) in the NFC North,” Knox said.

“Green Bay had 21 sacks in their first eight games, but didn’t get a consistent result. Devonte Wyatt leads the team with just three sacks. Starting guards Rashaan Gary and Preston Smith combined for just four .”

Young, 25, once looked like a rising NFL superstar. He won Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2020 and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2020. He’s had some ups and downs since then, and has just two sacks in eight games this season, though with 12 tackles at linebacker, it seems likely the total will take off soon.

After signing a one-year, $13 million deal with the lowly Saints, Young should be motivated to get to a new team at the deadline and prove himself. He could make a lot of money with a strong second half, and the Packers certainly wouldn’t complain if it helped them get a ring.
