Adele says ‘rare’ infection was ‘most painful thing’

  • Adele opened up to the Las Vegas residency about her recent experience with a “painful” infection.
  • “It was worse than giving birth,” she said.
  • But she’s pulled through, thanks to treatment, insisting she won’t miss any of her latest shows “for a very long time,” as she recently announced.

Even when Adele sick, the show must go on. This is especially true now, because it is coming “very long” In August, she announced a hiatus from performing following the end of her Las Vegas residency. And on a recent show, she admitted to fans that she was suffering from an infection with symptoms “worse than childbirth.”

Participant-film in the granular audience clip posted on X, Adele sat down on the piano bench to really get down with her crowd between songs. “Actually, I have an ear infection which is quite unpleasant. I have never had ear infections before,” she said. “This is the most painful thing that has ever happened to me in my life – it was worse than childbirth.”

The singer explained that the infection was caused by a “rare water bacterium”, which makes it difficult to treat. As a result, she was put on the wrong antibiotics “for a few days,” she explained, and finally put on medication that “started to work.”

Fortunately, she is “no longer in pain, which is great,” she said, but she remains “a little deaf” in one ear. Despite this, “I didn’t miss a f*cking show,” she exclaimed to the roaring crowd.

There are different types of ear infections, the most common of which are a middle ear infectionor otitis media, and swimmer’s earor otitis externa, which affects the canal between the outer and middle ear. Middle ear infections are usually caused by an underlying medical condition, such as a cold, flu, or allergy, that leads to congestion and fluid buildup. Swimmer’s ear, on the other hand, is named after its most common culprit, contaminated water.

Essentially, when water enters the ear, usually after swimming, bacteria that thrive in a warm, moist environment multiply and cause an infection. Symptoms of swimmer’s ear include ear pain, muffled hearing, hearing loss, ear blockage, fever, drainage, redness, swelling and enlarged lymph nodes, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Symptoms of a middle ear infection include ear pain, drainage, and hearing problems, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Regardless of the type of infection Adele had, we’re glad she’s almost recovered and back on stage. The show is one of the last 10 shows the 36-year-old plans to do before going on hiatus, she announced at an August concert in Munich, per people. “I’ve got 10 more shows, but after that I won’t be seeing you for an incredibly long time,” she said. “And I will love you in my heart.”
