The groom pleaded guilty to the death of the groom just hours before the Irish wedding

Kum pleaded guilty to careless driving causing the death of a A man from Limerick hours before he was due to walk down the aisle.

Shane Harty, 21, of Tola Park, Shannon pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Judge Colin Daly at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court last week.

Myles Harty, aged 20, of Friary Court, Askeeton, died as a result of a road traffic accident on the R518, Cragmore, Rathkeel Road, Askeeton, at around 1am on Saturday morning, 21 August 2021.

It is known that the accused and the victim are relatives.

Prosecuting barrister Lily Buckley BL, instructed by Crown Solicitor Brendan Gill, said the victim’s parents and fiancee were in court.

“This is a very tragic case. The deceased was due to get married on the day of the incident,” Ms Buckley said.

Judge Daly said it was a very difficult case and offered his condolences to the family for their loss.

Shane Harty, who was wearing blue jeans and a red shirt, pleaded “guilty” when the court clerk charged him with careless driving causing his death.

Brian McInerney SC, instructed by solicitor Michael O’Donnell, represented Shane Harty during the brief procedural matter.

Mr McInerney said his client was a best man at a wedding.

Shane Harty is due to be sentenced on Monday, November 18. He was released on bail.
