Car crashes into Johnston County home after high-speed chase :: WRAL.com

A car crashed into a Johnston County home Tuesday night after Wilson Mills police officers led it on a high-speed chase.

According to the authorities. A Wilson’s Mills police officer attempted to stop a vehicle speeding through a US Highway 70 work zone, but the driver drove off.

Police said the chase exceeded 112 mph. The driver turned off his lights and the police lost sight of him.

A short time later, officers received reports of a “car into a home” on Creech Mill Road outside Smithfield. Police said the driver drove across a field to avoid authorities, then through someone’s yard before smashing into a large pump station, becoming airborne and crashing into a home.

WRAL Breaking News Tracker was at the scene of the crash.

Police said first responders found the injured driver sitting at a picnic table in the front yard of the damaged home. The car ended up in the bedroom of the former owner of the house, who moved out two weeks ago.

The driver was taken to WakeMed with minor injuries, and the Johnston County Building Inspector condemned the home.

Police said the driver is facing multiple charges.
