Killer dumplings? A woman died after eating momos, 15 others got food poisoning

In a shocking incident, a 33-year-old woman died after eating momos from a street stall in the Banjara Hills area of ​​the Indian city of Hyderabad and 15 others fell ill, police said.

The street vendor was reportedly selling momos at various locations in the city.

According to media reports, the woman, identified as Reshma Begum, and her two daughters, aged 12 and 14, were consuming momos in Khairatabad on Friday (October 25).

The woman died on Sunday (October 27) and her daughters are receiving treatment, NDTV reported. The woman was a single mother, she was survived by her daughters.

According to India Today, the woman developed symptoms of food poisoning almost an hour after she ate the momos. After some time she suffered from abdominal pain, diarrhea and vomiting.

Speaking to news agency PTI, Banjara Hills Police Station Sub-Inspector Ram Babu said, “Yesterday we received a complaint that Reshma Begum (33) died and 15 others got food poisoning after eating souvenirs (street food) from one seller in different stores. locations have registered a case and are investigating the case.”

The police are investigating Momo’s food poisoning case

During the investigation, the police found that the seller did not have any food safety license and the momos were prepared in unsanitary conditions.

After cooking, the dough was stored in the refrigerator without packaging. During the investigation, it was also established that the door of the refrigerator was broken.

The law enforcement officers took samples from the food seller and sent them for laboratory tests.

According to local media reports, the stall where the woman and others were eating momos was called ‘Delhi Momos’.

The stall was set up in Chintal Basti almost three months ago by six men who hailed from the Indian state of Bihar.

Police said they have arrested two people who were running the stalls and have registered a case of premeditated murder, not murder.
