The FBI seized 150 explosive devices from a man’s house in Virginia

A Virginia man is in custody after the FBI found the largest collection of explosives in his home, the largest in the agency’s history.

Brad Spafford, of Smithfield, Virginia, was initially charged with possession of an unregistered firearm. When investigators executed a search warrant on his property, they discovered a “stockpile of more than 150 improvised explosive devices believed to be pipe bombs.” it is stated in the criminal complaint. He was detained on December 17.

Most of the explosives were found in a garage separate from the house, as well as in a backpack in the bedroom. According to prosecutors, “#nolivesmatter” — an ideology that has historically promoted mass violence, self-harm and animal cruelty — was written on the outside of the bag, This is reported by NBC.

In Spafford’s freezer, investigators found a can of HMTD, an explosive so delicate that “friction from temperature changes” could have caused it to detonate, the document said. It was labeled “dangerous” and “do not touch” and was stored near food.

On the move to revoke Spafford’s dismissalprosecutors said he would put his community — as well as his wife and two children — in “extreme danger,” This is reported by NBC.

The petition also states that the FBI found a notebook at Spafford’s residence, which contained “recipes” for explosives and other destructive weapons, including grenades, HMTDs, and military-grade C-4 explosives.

The suspect has “expressed support for political assassinations,” used photos of President Joe Biden for shootings and “recently claimed sniper rifle qualifications at a local gun range,” prosecutors said, according to NBC.

Spafford, who his attorneys said had no criminal history, mental illness or substance abuse, became the target of the investigation after an anonymous source tipped off law enforcement about Spafford. Spafford allegedly told the source that he lost three fingers on his right hand while building the explosive device.
